200 WWII veterans enjoy Honor Flight

honor-flightThousands of friends, family members and supporters cheered and offered thanks on Sunday, September 19 as 200 World War II veterans arrived at the airport following a one-day Honor Flight to visit the WWII monument in Washington D.C. The flight was an opportunity made possible by Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, Inc., an organization dedicated to flying WWII veterans to see the memorial honoring their service, a once-in-a-lifetime trip nearly 500 more area veterans are still waiting their turn to take. Sunday’s flight was the seventh flight from Mitchell since the program began in November, 2008. The next Honor Flight is scheduled for November.
