Stars and stripes flies WWII vets to D.C., MKEA group of 225 World War II veterans were greeted by thousands at Mitchell Airport as they deplaned their Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, returning from a complimentary visit to their WWII memorial in Washington D.C. The mid-April trip was hosted in part by the Honor Flight Network, a national program that sent 22,149 veterans to see their memorial at no cost in 2010. Wisconsin currently hosts six Honor Flight hubs, with the Stars and Stripes branch serving Milwaukee and the state’s southeastern region. To date, Stars and Stripes has flown more than 1,000 Wisconsin veterans to Washington D.C.
