Lots of New Routes Opening Up!
Southwest Airlines is increasing service on its nonstop routes from MKE to New Orleans and Ft. Lauderdale, while Frontier Airlines has announced new non-stop service to Orlando and Ft. Myers. Last month, Southwest launched its new Milwaukee-Cancun nonstop service. We celebrated in the gate area with dancers from Escuela Vieau School. Check out the next article for more ideas on how to escape cold weather this winter.
Avoid the Next Polar Vortex
This week’s chill reminds us that winter will arrive soon, but warm destinations are just a short flight away. Southwest and Frontier are offering new routes from MKE this winter. Southwest alone will offer 33 nonstop departures to warm weather destinations on Saturdays during Spring Break, while Delta will serve Cancun and Orlando nonstop from MKE. Including Frontier’s new Orlando and Ft. Myers flights, we’ll have up to 20 nonstops to Florida in a single day.
Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Funjet Vacations and Apple Vacations are offering an exciting mix of nonstop flights to destinations like Cancun, Cozumel, Ixtapa, Jamaica, Puerto Vallarta, and Punta Cana. Whether it’s a quick getaway or an extended vacation, MKE has plenty of exciting vacation options to help travelers avoid another “polar vortex.” Visit our route map at mitchellairport.com.

Phase one of our new Baggage Claim opened to the public on September 3, and all flights are now using the new area. The renovated area is much more bright and inviting, and the new carousels will help your luggage arrive more quickly! The entire project will be completed next year. Flying International from MKE?
If you have enrolled in Global Entry, your next international arrival into MKE will be streamlined, thanks to the installation of two Global Entry kiosks. The kiosks allow registered trusted travelers to receive expedited U.S. Customs and Border Protection processing in our International Arrivals Terminal. Mitchell Airport offers six non-stop destinations to Mexico and the Caribbean, and the Global Entry kiosks make the return to MKE much easier. To sign up, visit cbp.gov.
New Branding for Southwest & Frontier
Have you seen the new corporate branding for two of our airlines? Southwest and Frontier both changed their corporate symbols and aircraft paint schemes earlier this month. Southwest’s features a colorful heart for their planes to symbolize that “without a heart, it’s just a machine,” while Frontier chose a retro look for their aircraft. Look for these new aircraft paint schemes the next time you’re at Mitchell Airport!

50 Years Since the Beatles Invaded MKE
On September 4, 1964, the Beatles landed at Mitchell Airport, which was stop #12 on their first concert tour in the United States. The group flew on a four-engine Lockheed Electra operated by American Flyers. Due to large crowds at the passenger terminal, the aircraft parked on the military ramp at what is now the 128th Air Refueling Wing.
