MKE’s current International Arrivals Terminal is outdated and inconvenient for travelers. The Airport is planning to redevelop MKE’s former E Concourse into a new, flexible-use domestic/international concourse with two gates. Construction is expected to begin in late 2025. The new concourse is expected to open in late 2027.

The History of Concourse E:

The original Concourse E opened in 1969 with a design that gave travelers a panoramic view of the airfield from the rotunda. The original Concourse E was originally the home of North Central Airlines, which became a part of Northwest Airlines and later Delta Air Lines. The first flight to depart from the concourse was North Central Flight #7 on December 8, 1969.

Over the course of 47 years, Concourse E housed 10 airline gates that served 16 airlines. After years of airline consolidation, all flight operations relocated to Concourse C. Concourse E officially closed in 2017.

International Arrivals Terminal

MKE’s Existing International Arrivals:

The current International Arrivals Terminal was designed in 1975 as a standalone building with one gate. The building’s location is inconvenient for arriving passengers since it is not connected to the main terminal or parking garage. The size of the building also limits the ability to process larger numbers of arriving passengers, as more people choose to fly from MKE.

The New and Improved Concourse E:

On September 16, 2025, MKE officially kicked off the Concourse E Redevelopment Project. The new Concourse will be connected to the Airport’s main terminal and will offer a smoother, more convenient travel experience for domestic and international passengers.

The project is being funded by a mix of airport funds, bonding, and $13.5 million federal funding. No property tax dollars are used by the Airport.

Other key facts:

  • Two flexible-use domestic/international gates
  • Capacity for 400 international arrivals per hour, compared to 140 in the current building
  • Green roof and solar shading environmental features
  • 200+ construction jobs created by this project
